Preparing to conduct a major re-launch of its Quilted Northern bath tissue line, the organization had the opportunity to address the efficiency of its consumer products supply chain.

With more than a thousand projects completed between 2009 and 2012, Beck was enlisted to improve packaging design and premedia production. Beck recommended that Georgia-Pacific needed to streamline the graphics workflow and to implement safeguards that would ensure print quality and consistency.

As with every project, Beck began with a thorough audit of existing practices. The analysis focused specifically on premedia and packaging design, including interaction between marketing, legal and engineering departments.

With the audit data in place, Beck customized a Premedia Workflow CompressionSM  process. Starting with the print goal in mind, the graphics workflow model addressed every element from design to shelf, and aligned the right people at each step. Guided by the Beck team, each task was supported precisely with expertise and cutting-edge technology.

Immediately, the compressed graphics workflow model reduced time to shelf by eliminating task redundancies between marketing, legal and engineering. Establishing greater collaboration between departments also increased the success for each department and reduced errors in the process.

Beck also recommended co-engineering the package design to identify and correct printing challenges during (rather than after) the design process, and implementing a design review procedure to reduce design changes during the premedia workflow. Implementing process reviews improved print accuracy and speed, because potential issues were addressed before they could cause delays and need for revision.
